catch 22 session

well after all the talk of the lake and taken rob down to have a look around this venue ,it was all way on the cards that i would not be able to resist the temptation and go wet a line .
so yesterday morning the car was loaded the bait prepared and the short journey from my house to the lake was made .
once i arrived i had a chat with dave wilby the fishery manager on how it was fishing and he told me fish were coming out but not in the numbers that we had been use to seeing ,this was probably down to winter feels like it two weeks behind .
i walked round the lake and as there was only two pegs taken by a group over from ireland i virtually had the choice of the whole lake .
i decided to go for the point swim as this gave me a point where i could view the whole lake and see if any fish were moving in other area,s .

soon base camp was established and the kettle was on for a breww before i started i sat back and just gazed over the lake looking for signs of carp any where to just give me some idea where in the swim they would be .
i decided to bait a area short way out down to my right as i know this is a spot carp move into in the evening so i will lightly bait it and see if any fish roll there at dusk and if they do i,ll swing one of the rod on the area.
nothing at all happen during the afternoon and i was wondering wether it had be the right decision to set up here and fish the drop of behind the island .
so just before i started my tea a fish rolled out to my right away from the drop off some 70 yds out so i quickly reeeled a rod in and despatched it to where the fish had rolled again another fish rolled and then another they were there ALRIGHT but they were well off the drop off so my other rod was despatched just behind where the last fish had rolled cutting off there escape .
at this point i decided to do my tea and let the rods settle in and see what would transpire so i retired to the bivvy and done my self some instant in a can meal .
once this had been cooked and i made a coffee to let my tea settle i looked over to the rods and something seem to be not right in the half light , as i looked my right hand rod indicator was tight under the rod and i peered at the reel but it was not moving ,then suddenly i notice what has happen
bloody hell i thought as i picked up the rod the line had not been sitting in my alarm and the spool of my shimano 10,000 was almost empty .
but at this range i could not feel a thing it must be right over the other side as i reeled in and got yards of line back on my reel it took for age to reel in i knew it had made its escape i was annoyed withmyself on two counts one for not putting the line in the alarm and also checking on them even while i was eating .
this rod was soon rebaited and despatched once again to the same location as i put it earlier and i sat back and started to take in the stillness of the dark when out of the blue the same rod was away ,
i leaned into it and it felf a good lump as it kited to my right and stayed deep i got it close in the net was already waiting but it had other plans and decided it was not ready to come in so i gave it line as it went to my left .
i applied pressure to turn it and guided it to my waiting net and was please to see a cracking catch 22 common again .

it weighed 20lb bag on i was pleased with this as i needed a carp for the species hunt so richard 1.5 points if you would be so kind it also has broken the forum carp record so thats a right result .
after the pics i watched her gracefully dissappear into the depths and soon rebaited and again it was out there .
another hour or so past and it had gone quiet so i turned in but my left hand rod had other idea,s as it signaled some attention as i leaned into it i knew it was a bream and it came in really easerly but still its a fine bream at that

and at 6lb 12oz sorry rob it breaks your forum record but its a nice bream again as soon as the pics were done it weas back out with the rod and i settle down for the night optimistic of some through the night action .
again at 1 o,clock i was up and again this was another bream and although i did not take a pic i weighed it at 6lb 8oz still a nice bream but not one of the 9.s or doulbes that this water in known for .
again the rod was put back out there and i was surprised top wake in the morning withg no further action from the carp .
but stil i,ll put that down to the water not warmed up yet at this point i had the decision to stay anpother night or go home i decided to head for home as the fish were not really having it at the moment ,but there will be a next time soon .
