| Got to Shearwater at about 9.30am to find that it was pretty crowded. Every peg along the road side was full of bivvies & carp anglers obviously there to stay for the whole bank holiday weekend. So I went around to the point halfway between the old boathouse & the dam. I was hoping for a Carp & Tench for the species hunt & I had caught some good ones at this spot early last season. Made up a tasty groundbait mix consisting of Van Den Eynde Expo, Brown crumb, sweetcorn, Hemp, Caster & mini halibut pellets . Threw out a couple of orange size balls & fished over the groundbait using a feeder & size 12 hair rig baited with sweetcorn. The quivertip went straight round & I struck into a nice Bream of about 3lb. Next cast I had an immediate bite on the drop before I could even put the rod down. Another Bream!! This continued to set the pattern for the rest of the day. I tried using other baits to try & tempt a carp, but just could not get through the bream. Bread, caster, maggot, halibut pellet & shellfish Boilies. Still bream every cast. Good fun, but not what I was after. Mind you, The carp specialists were not having much luck either. Decided to pack up about 6pm, then I noticed a few carp taking floating dog biscuits that had drifted accross to my side of the lake. Trouble was I had no floating bait other than crust. Tried that & although A couple of carp came up & took a look, the ducks kept going for it too & scaring the fish, so called it a day at about 7.30pm. All in all a good days bream fishing with most fish weighing between 2lb - 4lb. Caught well in excess of 100lb & my landing net is now covered in stinking slime to prove it .Best fish was this battered old warrior of a Bream that went just over 5lb, even with half it's tail missing!!! __________________ Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey... |

| Re: Shearwater Report 14-04-06 Cheers guys, big catches of bream are fairly common at Shearwater. I used to fish a lot of matches there in the 1970s - 1980s & it was'nt worth weighing in unless you had over 60lb in your net. In those days it was run by the Warminster club. Since it's been run by the Longleat estate, it has become mainly a carp venue. Expensive & too many rules. __________________ Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey... |
