Probably going to do a bit of fishing at Shearwater lake Nr Warminster on Sunday to try for a few more species hunt points. Target species: Bream, Carp & maybe an early season Tench... Anyone fancy joining me, feel free. It's a day ticket water. ![]() __________________ One man's fish is another man's poissons http://www.deepsea.co.uk http://www.wildtrout.org

God that name brings back memories, I used to fish a lot of matches there years ago....it was a "big bream" water until they stocked it with Carp. Good luck Mate. ![]()

Yep I remember those days too. Needed at least 60lb to even be worth weighing in. Most of the carp in there now are ones that escaped netting when they drained the lake. Those that were left bred like crazy. Good news is that there are still plenty of bream & some good tench too. I had some good catches last year fishing bread flake & left the carp to the boilie boys. Still showed them how its done though landing quite a few double figure carp on match fishing gear. Did'nt lose a fish. It's all about using balanced tackle. ![]() __________________ One man's fish is another man's poissons http://www.deepsea.co.uk http://www.wildtrout.org

Yes I'm with you on that GH if your tackle ain't balanced your in the Sh*t with big fish. I used to fish the feeder and bomb with an extra long tail so that you could get the bites on the drop when the fish weren't really feeding. Funny enough bread flake and red worms were THE bait to have on your hook when the fishing was hard. I can remember coming second to one of the Dorking lads in my section with over 70lb of dustbin lid sized bream....and we did'nt get in the top 5! Good to hear the place still has a few big bream and tench in it. Nothing like a dawn patrol for Tench

| Re: Shearwater lake Sunday Strange thing about Shearwater. If you drew the hollybush peg in a match & you knew your stuff, you were almost certain to be in the money. I came to the conclusion that there must be some underwater feature there that held the fish. When they drained the lake, I went to check it out. Would you believe, it was totally featureless. | Just found out that Shearwater is only open between March 3rd & November 5th . Guess thats what happens when a water is taken out of the control of a fishing club & put into the hands of accountants. ![]() __________________ One man's fish is another man's poissons http://www.deepsea.co.uk http://www.wildtrout.org |
