Reepham 15/02/06

First Carping session today since sometime last summer. Good to get back to Reepham as you're normally guaranteed a few fish.
It had been raining hevily the night before, so the banks were extremely muddy and silly me only took trainers (ended up with freezing cold, wet feet). Weather during the session was mainly sunny with a light breeze but there was a heavy rain/hail storm at one point.
After an hour in our first swim I wasn't feeling confident so we moved to a small channel that forms the lake into 1 which has produced many Carp for me before.

(Note the muddy banks)

Bait used during the day were boilies, maggots/casters and spam. First run came to me on a good old Tutti Frutti boilie and my first carp of the year was soon landed at about 3lb.

Not long after, a huge dropback on a Scopex boilie produced a nice Common Carp not much bigger than the first.

I soon turned my attention to getting some species points...this meant light tackle fishing a maggot feeder or float with maggots/caster for Rudd and Roach. I started off with a feeder and caught plenty of small Rudd, after around 20 minutes a dropback produced this lovely Rudd of 14oz on double caster.

Plenty of more Rudd came along (including taking some off the top with floating casters which was fun)

Also caught a Roach for more points

Not a bad start to the Carp year.

Thumbs up Re: Reepham 15/02/06

Nice report & nice pictures Norfolkboy. Looks a nice venue, i,ve been trying to think where I can catch a Rudd down my way for the species hunt. Always seem to end-up catching Roach. Well done anyway mate.

Nice session Dan. Good points to.

Not so sure about the Glasonbury style mud though...
