Talking Pike fishing Bristol Avon 06/02/06

Thought I would have a few hours plugging for pike on the free water at Bradford on Avon to try for some species hunt points. Popped into the tackle shop en-route & bought a nice shiny 4" pike spoon that the shop owner assured me would do the business. Got to the water about 11am & bought a 4hour parking ticket for the station car park. Set up my 9' Daiwa sensor spinning rod & had a few chucks with the new spoon. Before long I had decorated a tree on the far bank with it . It looked so nice glinting in the sun, that I decided to leave it there. Thats my excuse anyway!!!
Spent the next four hours trying every spinner & plug in my box, but not a touch. Only one catching anything was a Kingfisher on the oposite bank. I also lost another couple of plugs on snags, however I did see one ambitious small Perch follow one of my plugs in. The perch was about 2" & the plug 4". With about 5 minutes remaining on my parking ticket & not wanting to get a parking fine like I had last week , I decided to have one last cast & then head back to the car. I flicked a 3" plug across to the far bank & retrieved it at a steady rate. "nothing" then just as i went to lift the plug from the water....... THUMP A bloody great Perch grabbed hold right below my feet
Not my target species bt very welcome anyway
Not sure what it weighed , as I had no scales, but to put it in perspective, the plug in the photo is a 3" one & the reel is a 6000 size that I use for Bass & Pollack spinning.

Re: Pike fishing Bristol Avon 06/02/06

Nice fish Greenheart. And how public spirited of you to try and brighten the place up a little with your unwanted spinners.

Nice one.

Rich.

Cheers guys, if you have any unwanted spinners or plugs, just send them to me & I shall re-cycle them as tree decorations. still need a pike for the species hunt though.

Nice one Ian, but don't go catching too many species. You might make it difficult for others :-))
