Talking Bristol Avon Tue 31st Jan

Decided to give the free strech at Bradford on Avon a go to try for some points in the species hunt. The wife had an early start for work & had set the alarm for 5am. Alarm went off, got up, looked out window, great, no frost. Got back into bed for another five minutes & woke up at 08.30. So much for an early start!!!
Got to the river at 09.30 & conditions looked perfect. Water not too clear & a nice steady flow. Set up my 12ft match rod & antique ABU 501 reel with a drennan stick float & flicked a few maggots into the river. Woosh instantly attracted about 5 million Ducks.

Cast out among the ducks & the float went straight under. Nice chub of about 2 1/2lbs

Fished on through the day catching small roach & the odd dace almost every cast.

From the wall above my head there was also a virtually non-stop stream of bread being thrown by an assortment of kids with young mothers & old grannies which also continued throughout the day!!!
I had'nt realised it was national feed the ducks day.
Then the local pidgeons decided to get in on the act & I had to fight the little sods off to stop them pinching all my bait.

I think all the bread was attracting the fish as I had three more good chub & a couple more good roach from right underneath the ducks.

Unfortunately I had no bread for bait. Used maggot & caster, but the fish only appeared interested in maggot.
All in all an excellent day even if I did have to share it with the local wildlife!!! At least I caught 3 of my target species & got some points for Geejayy & I.
Pity it was spoilt when I got back to my car!!!
If the facist little jobsworth who put a parking ticket on my car is reading this, May all your peeler crabs never peel & I hope all your maggots turn to bluebottles & escape in your car!!!.

Cool Re: Bristol Avon Tue 31st Jan

Well done Greenheart, great report and bag full of fish. I've fished the Bristol Avon for over 25 years and I have never fished the free stretch at Bradford on Avon, after your report mate I must give it a go!

MMmmmmm Pigeon or Duck recipes.....Smoked Pigeon breast is to die for mate served on a bed of wild rocket squeeze of lemon juice and shavings of parmesan cheese and lots of cracked black pepper .

Duck....well its got to be crispy roast duck for me mate!!

Great report mate.
