Talking Parental pressure, pike and points

As the missus is still away any fishing I do at moment is very short sessions whilst son is at school (for 2 poxy hours, another long story) of if able too be done on a trip out in pm
Woke this morning to lovely crisp frosty scene and decided today was the day for pike!!
Well after chatting to guy in tackle shop this morning, got excellent reports on Exeter canal (swans nest area)so decided that was the place to go

Collected boy from school and persuaded him we were going for a walk/trip out and not watching star wars for 20th time this week
So took my poor car off roading and found the canal, what a lovely site and you can park right beside,

So got my son to help me decide what lure too use (a small purple/blue rattler from trago mills) and started plugging away

RESULT !!!!! 5th or 6th cast get this 3-4lb jack pike (my first ever!!!) caught about 4 feet from the bank and came in like a wet sack!!. Not sure who was more shocked me or the fish

Unhooked easy enough then the fun started as it decided too eat landing net(not fun to unhook from jaws of fish) and then got lure tangled in net, anyway it was returned safely too fight another day

No more fish but I know I’ll be back as great fun and more importantly son enjoyed himself as well( although not sure if his handfuls off gravel groundbait helped)

Thumbs up Re: Parental pressure, pike and points

Well done on you,r first pike dave & excellent report. I,m probably going to give the Bristol Avon a go on monday or tuesday next week to try & get a few species hunt points for Geejayy & myself. I shall probably take a few plugs along too & have a few chucks. Used to get plagued with pike at Bradford attacking my swimfeeders.
