Thumbs up Lakeside Park Burnham

Lakeside Holiday Village

Burnham on sea Somerset

After packing far more gear than a vectra should really be allowed we went off to the above lake and caravan (static) park for our hols

Our van was conveniently 3 away from the lake (although even at this distance my son fell in ;( one night)

Amazingly my wife said these words at the beginning of the holiday

“Well the lakes there so I’m expecting you to fish when you can”

So duly I took this too mean every ‘spare’ minute

It’s a lovely looking lake

With a small side pool coming off of it

You can day fish the south side and west end and pool, night fishing is to the central south side and pool

It is stocked with carp (up to 28lb so seriously after my first double and new PB), bream, tench also pike and usual small silver fish plus eels

So here is my diary for the week

Saturday night7.30pm-11pm

1 ledger rod plus float rod

Caught 4 Eels on the float (best about 3” to luncheon meat 1 ½ points please as have picture now ;-)

Then what actually turned out to be my best bream of the week about 2 ½ lb to sweet corn on the float, saw 3 carp caught to 13lb by angler to right fishing within 2 feet of far bank, so got some tips for the next trip, good start too week, nice evening only in tee-shirt (which ended up being the norm as had great weather all week)

Sunday night 7.30 –midnight

Sorry to say a complete blanks not even a run ;-(

Saw 1 carp caught about 6lb

Monday 9.30-midnight

1 bream about 2lb to fiery pepperami on the float

Saw 1 carp caught

Tuesday 7pm-1am

5 eels to maggot on float rod

5 bream to maggot on float

Nothing on carp rods (now using strawberry carp sweets ;-0(boilies)(which are banned but everyone used, and was only bait catching them, so tried a couple) and used pva bags for first time, not even a run again

Saw no other fish caught this evening

Wednesday9.30pm-12.30am

Firstly to make me laugh had txt from mate who I fish with who met Fishypaul telling me he had more points for hunt, well done (small world isn’t it)

Again absolutely nothing on ledger

Float rod caught 2 bream and 4 eels (now getting really hacked off with the slimy beasts)

Then at midnight my maggot loaded float slid away, I picked up the rod and the line ripped off, CARP and WOW this fish felt big!!!, guy on next platform came over to help as had to play fish for good 5+ minutes (only on 6lb line and size 12 barbless hook)

Eventually landed it, found out it had fought so well as side hooked to its rear :-0

Very happy even though not my double that I thought (at exactly 9lb), but I had managed a carp from this water and new PB

Saw no other fish caught either that night

Thursday 6.30pm –1.30am

Inspired by the previous night (and a txt from Rob that he had got his double!! Well done mate) was going for it !!!, kept to and seriously ground baited same swim where got carp last night

(fished 8” out in front of willow on right as used to be old reed bed apparently), tally was 1 perch, 1 eel, 4 skimmers and 2 bream, all caught on maggot on float,
Saw 2 carp landed to 6lb

For info the 5-hour Match on the lake in the day was won with 6 skimmers for 3lb

Friday 9.30-11.15pm

Just to finish off the bait

Caught 4 bream to 1 ½ lb and 1 eel

All to maggot on the float

There seems to be a big problem with eels in this lake, and also this family of resident swans who never sleep and cruise over or into your lines all the time

All in all a good week but heard from a lot of regulars that this is a hard lake to fish

It was difficult enough to get the silver fish out let alone the carp, During the week i went through so many baits it was silly, I never had a single run on any ledger rod, But I was happy that I managed to catch on all bar one night, and happy to even get 1 carp and new PB at 9lb, when so few were landed in the week, whether it was the hot weather , humidity or light/noise who knows, I may return in a few years

Dave

Re: Lakeside Park Burnham

Well done Dave, nice report

You're really counting that foul hooked fish as a PB? Nah, well done

Brilliant report Dave! Well done on your PB carp! Glad you had a good week (apart from the eels!)

Re: Lakeside Park Burnham

must add for those that like bitter(real ale) this site is Cr*p (have 2 NAFF keg beers) and the lagers are none too cheap(unless buying a 4 pint jug)
also watch out for the bats at night they poop anywhere and hang in the trees above you

Cool Re: Lakeside Park Burnham

Well done Dave,

Sounds like you had some nice fish mate....shame about the eels, but like you say extra 1/2 point now you got a photo

Oh and i'd have claimed a new PB even though i'd foul hooked it...its not the hooking its the landing that counts.
