Cool Holiday

Been away to the Peak District, 2 different resorts.

The 1st one had a lovely little carp lake and a small stretch of river. We fished the carp lake every day and I managed loads of carp (all ranging from 2-4lb) Commons, mirror, linears, leathers, fully scaled mirrors (the leather and fully scaled were 2 new species for me, so that was good)

Also caught loads of crayfish . Baits that were succesful were maggots, worms, bread, dog biscuits, sweetcorn and cat food. We had them on the float, legered, swimfeeder, freelined. Great fun on light tackle. I missed 2 big fish off the top that couldn't quite get the biscuit in the mouth (my heart was going at an alarming rate when seeing them) They were possibly mid doubles, both commons. I was a bit gutted to say the least.

A few pics

The lake itself (we were fishing to the island)

A nice heavily plated mirror:

My 1st fully scaled mirror:

Leather carp:

1 of the better sized commons:

We forgot all about the little river and on the last day we decided to fish it for an hour with maggots and worms.

We caught 4 brown trout (our 1st ever), 3 crayfish (we just couldn't get away from them) and a fish I'd never seen before

Brown trout:

(dad's)

(Mine)

The weird fish:

The 2nd venue was at Rudyard Lake.

This was the view from our lodge:

Unfortunately the fishing wasn't great, and we only managed a few roach, perch and bream.

There were a lot of dead pike around and I think it was down to an algae bloom in the water.

Still a great venue anyway.
