Rob & Paul's Day Out (Darkside!)

My day started at 4.30am, when the alarm went off <groan>. I looked out of the window and it was chucking down . Paul arrived at my house at 5.30am and after greetings, we set off for the private lake belonging to my angling club. After surveying the lake, we set up at two pegs near some lily pads. For the morning, we were going to float fish. It was still raining, but only it had gotten worse and the brolleys were being moved around by the wind. It was comical trying to hold on brolleys and play a fish to the net

Paul was first in with a perch, caught on red maggot. He went on to catch 2 crucian carp (1.5 pts for species hunt):

Paul was catching lots of bream and skimmers, along with with carp. I tried with lobworms for perch, with no success, so changed my tactics for carp and caught 5 commons ranging from 2-4lbs and a few sizeable bream. Disaster struck when my rod tip snapped when I was pulling line through I'm off to the tackle shop tomorrow for a replacement! Paul also had a laugh while I tried to climb an overhanging tree for my float

The morning was broken up by a text message from Dave (Pingu) who sent me a very inappropriate joke which I laughed my arse off at . (Shame on you Dave )

After a while, we decided to do some ledgering and moved swims. Then the unbelievable happened: Paul was adjusting his rig and dropped it into the margin and perfectly hooked a common carp of around 3lbs! It just goes to show that Kentish anglers are so good, they don't even need bait! Here's a pic of him playing it to the net:

Paul then got underway and caught a beautiful linear carp of around 5lbs on Pepperami (1.5 points!):

He went on to catch 5 more commons all on Pepperami (I think) (all 2.5lbs+)

I caught three more commons and a linear, all on frankfurter. One of the commons was 6lbs 2oz, but looked a lot bigger

Anyway, I have to say it was a cracking day, with great company (cheers Paul) and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Rob

Re: Rob & Paul's Day Out (Darkside!)

thanks for a great report rob,
not a lot for me to add really,
for me the day started at 03.50 (OUCH !),it was chucking it down,
it wasn't a good omen,i got drenched before i even started,

nearly an hour and a half later i arrived at robs house.not a good journey, the M25 is not pleasant at any time, but in torrential rain ? not good !.

the lake is a treasure, nestled in woodland and completely surrounded by trees it is a little paradise,
it is alive with fish and rob soon showed me how it was done,he caught carp after carp and was in danger of emptying the place.
i struggled a bit,i was getting bream and a couple of nice crucians but the carp were queuing up in robs swim.

we moved at lunchtime and with open water in front of me and an island to fish to i was in my element.i got half a dozen carp in the afternoon and had a great time,
rob was into them again, this time using his new secret weapon - frankfurters, they were going berserk for them.

funniest sight of the day ?

rob playing a carp with a frankfurter in his mouth, honestly he looked like winston churchill with a bloody great cigar

as for the carp taking a bare hook, well i couldn't believe it,i only put the rod down in the rest to get some bait out and it motored off ! , amazing

a great day ,great company and some good fish, what more can you ask for.

thanks rob.

4.5 points for the species as well,i will be sending the pictures as usual richard.

I was day-dreaming at the time and munching on a spare frankfurter when the reel screamed off, so I just jumped up with it in my gob. Biggest fish of the day too, lovely. Me and Paul discussed my groundbait mix, we're keeping that secret, but the carp were going mental for it
