Smile Carp on the Fly Rod

Myself and Devon Born decided that we had a great plan to improve our species hunt score. So last night we headed to Kingcombe fishery. It is a series of 5 smallish lakes with a variety of different species.

We parked the car in car park and as Elliot got set up to tackle the species I threw in some dog biscuit to see if anything was around on the surface.
Almost instantly there was quite a bit of interest in the floaters.

So instead of going after the species I decided to get my fly rod out (sorry Elliot, best laid plans and all that). Now you traditionalists will be wondering what fly I used. Well I have to say I cheated a bit and used an Enterprise Tackle Imitation Dog Biscuit (these are the dogs B*llocks).
Almost instantly I hooked into a nice Carp that took off across the lake. After a couple of minutes it managed to head into the weed. I eventually dragged it out and Elliot was about to net it when the line parted due to the weight of the fish and the wed it had picked up. The fish looked like it would have just nudged double figures.

Moved to another part of the Lake and once again I was into another fish that headed straight for the weeds again. This one I managed to land after a bit of a struggle. It was around 7lb.

With all the disturbance I moved up to one of the other lakes whilst Elliot managed to add 3 more species to our list. I had another 6 fish out on the artificial dog biscuit. I even fished into dark and had one.

All the fish were around the 6 to 7lb mark, which is not a great size, but taken on a 7 weight fly rod it felt like the cork was popping off the handle sometimes the rod was bent over so much. Such joy
