| Woodstock Pond - 16/07/05 Went fishing on one of my association's ponds in Newport again on Saturday evening. It was yet another beautiful night and I was set up by about 8.30pm. The fish activity was less than my previous trip there, probably due to the chav family a couple of pegs away from me who's idea of fishing appeared to be making a drunken noise, playing with a ite alarm all the time and eventually lighting a bonfire on the side of a lake where the grass is like a tinder box before driving home p***ed at about 1.30am!!! Still, I ignored them and got on with my own thing. I fished 2 rods with mixed maggots on a size 14 hook and 2 SG float with 4lb line close in and a 1.5oz method feeder with boilie (can't remember the flavour but they were a sweet variety!) on a size 10 hair rig fished out to the opposite side. After a few missed bites on the float rod I managed to hook into my first fish and after a brief but decent scrap landed my first ever tench which weighed about 1lb. I chucked the float back out and started re-baiting the bottom rod when a boy who was chatting to me said the float was under. I struck and felt nothing there and started winding in thinking I'd missed it but saw something splashing around. Though it must be something like a dace but it turned out to be a very small eel about 7 or 8 inches long but worth another 1.5 points for the species hunt. I then had another eel which was much bigger, probably around the 1lb mark. My bottom rod was quiet all night but about 11.00pm the alarm went and I struck into a fish, it didn't fight too hard until it broke surface about 5m out and then went mental, shaking its head and just as I got my net ready it unhooked itself and got away. Not sure what it was possibly a carp or bream but looked from what I saw around the 2 lb mark. My last fish of the evening was another tench which fought hard at first before playing dead and then jumping out of my hands twice (returned to the water unharmed though!) at around 2.5 to 3 lbs it is possibly the biggest fish of any kind I have caught to date . I have to admit, I'm enjoying this course fishing lark more than sea fishing at the moment though. I have pictures of the tench and the mini eel but the larger eel didn't want to be photographed! |

| Re: Woodstock Pond - 16/07/05 I've finally got around to uploading my piccies. First up my first ever tench weighing approx. 1lb Then my first ever eel. Look at the size of the beast, how I came away with my arm intact after unhooking him I'll never know. Surely worth more than 1.5 points in the species hunt??? And finally my 2nd tench of about 3.5lbs which is the biggest fish of any kind I have caught. |
