Norfolk Broads - Pike Fishing

Me and Chris went to the broads today after a few pike.

The day didn't get off too a good start when my alarm clock didn't go off, and ended up being a bit late I think we arrived and were set up by about 5.15am.

We didn't like the swim we were in so at about 8am we moved to my favourite where me and a mate had our best session last year.

Chris had 3 rods out with deadbaits, I had 2. Baits were: Lamprey, Herring, Mackerel and Smelt.

At 9am Chris had a very fast run on his smelt rod...and he struck into nothing. Reel it back in to find the head missing? Would this have been an eel? As I'm sure a pike would have taken it whole...

A few hours later Chris had another run, and he missed it again. At around midday I had my 1st run, strike, hooked into a fish only for it to come off a few seconds later, bring in the deadbait...mangled!

Not long after and I had another run, and yet again another miss!! Boats and weed were a big problem, every retrieve there would be some weed somewhere on the trace.

The day ended quite badly with 2 of Chris's rods being taken out by a boat, and losing 2 whole spools of line, 2 weights and 2 traces.

Still, better than being stuck in the house all day.
