Excellent Darkside session

Well, I was looking forward to this as I had been told lots of good things about my local pond/lake. It's the smaller of two lakes run by the angling club I've just joined and is comfortably situated in the village where I live. However I didn't realise I'd have the best day's fishing ever when I set up my gear at 5.30 this morning...

I was using my newly-bought Leeda Zoo Creature power waggler rod, with 6lb line straight through. This rod is great, lots of play at the tip with a lot of 'umph' at the bottom. I didn't feel the need to set up my carp rod as it was the first time I had fished there and was 'testing the water' so to speak. I fed the swim I chose then settled down for some relaxing fishing, 5 minutes later I caught a lovely Tench of around a pound, caught on sweetcorn:

I kept trying but was unable to catch another, but after switching to bread caught a nice bream and a plump roach.

Changing to meat and upping my hook size to 12, the carp action began and didn't let up until I finished fishing at 12pm. I caught crucians, commons and mirrors (and a couple more Bream) and had a smile from ear to ear. All of the carp were between 1-3 lbs and in pristine condition (the pond was restocked last year). Another couple of years and they'll be lunkers I'm sure.

Mirror Carp (about 2.5 lbs):

Crucian carp (sorry about picture):

All in all, a cracking session and all done and dusted by lunchtime, great. The only downside (if there is one) is that there was a ghostie right in front of me which I tried to trick on free-lined dog biscuit. He sucked it in twice and I missed the bites I swear he was taunting me cos he kept coming back...

Anyway, tally for the day:

Crucians - 3
Commons - 10
Mirrors - 4
Bream - 3
Roach - 1
Tench - 1

I'm back there tomorrow!!

Cheers
Rob

Too right mate . I'm visiting the bigger lake tomorrow, I was going to fish today, but have done my 'chores' (i.e.DIY) instead. Works out better as I'll have a 12 hour sesh tomorrow, need a perch so will be out on the lawn later

Rob
