Henfold Lakes, Surrey

Well, I got to Bury Hill Lakes at 7.30am yesterday (Sunday) and found that it was swarming with people dressed in camo green. I thought it was an army exercise! It was mental, so I decided to go to Henfold Lakes about 3 miles down the road as I wanted a less busy area to try out my fishing. It seemed a lot quieter, which suited me. I followed the advice I had read on the forum and plumbed my chosen swim and adjusted my float. I was fishing light 4lb main and 2.5 hooklength. The only problem was groundbait is banned there so I was just fishing with my red maggots, sweetcorn and bread. It was quite a while before I got any bites, I missed a couple, but in the end caught three roach and 1 crucian carp about a pound. No photos, but I am going to return this week so hope that I catch again and I'll take the camera. Anyway, it WAS everything I hoped for these fish really fight on light tackle, a real bend in my rod I loved it! . Oh, all fish caught on maggot

Cool Re: Henfold Lakes, Surrey

Nice read Rob,

Sound like you had a good day, shame about the Army exercise, but it was the same at Plantation Lakes....bank to bank "Bivvies"!

I prefer some solitude sometimes when coarse fishing. It's a bit annoying when people are only a few yards in front of you on the opposite bank!

Well done mate

Did you chuck in a few maggots, sweetcorn etc.. to try and get them feeding?

A few handful of maggots yes, does this count as groundbait?. I felt a bit guilty,as the lake had a no groundbait rule and looked over my shoulder before I did it

Re: Henfold Lakes, Surrey

No mate, it's just loosefeed really. I do it on "No groundbait" waters, and even done it when the bailiffs have been chatting, so it's fine

Result. As I'm quite green to this I don't want to break any rules. I saw a couple of others feeding their swims with bread and maggots so I'd thought I would. They were very strict about using hemp though, shame as I had a tin of it

You could use that mate, that's loosefeed

Re: Henfold Lakes, Surrey

Unless there was a "No Particles" rule, then you wouldn't be allowed to use sweetcorn either
