| Well, It will be the first time out for me on a secret little lake not far from where I live in Bristol. Species that are available are: Crucian Carp, Ghost Carp, Koi Carp, Gold Carp (Goldfish?) Tench, Perch, Mirror Carp and I think Common Carp. I am told the lake is circa 5 feet deep with the odd shelf towards a couple of small islands. Baits will be 2mm Trout Pellets for feed, sweetcorn, Kitekat cat food, bread flake and maggots as hook bait. Any advice on how to fish this would be appreciated, such as hook sizes, hooklength and what float should i use. I have "Genesis" hook length material in .14 so should be OK for the carp? As I am not a modern "Carpy" I may stick to the methods I used in yesteryears |

| Re: First Time Out Well as it is a small lake and you have never fished it before ? I would start by getting there early and have a walk around it See if I can see any fish channels - meaning channels that fish will follow like weed beds , water depth ( remember certain weeds only can grow in certain depths of water ) and if you can get up a tree to get a better look If its what Im thing of ( a very quiet lake ) then I would fish my peg but I would bait up three to five other pegs with your pellets and keep an eye out for signs that the carp have moved in - bubbles , topping ect I would choose my peg with two things in mind . I would want a peg that I can start off fishing float and ledger ( distance to a weed bed or a channel ) and then switch to which ever is doing the most The weekend looks warm and sunday being a sunny one . So some topper baits might be good . I would put out about four floater baits samples on the water and set them up on the drift with the wind so that they cover the whole lake. As soon as you see carp rising then pop your floating rig out and let it drift to the last rise ( think were the carp might rise next ) Do this ever 1 hour or so Hook size - well 16 to 8s as its hard to say with not see the baits / lake Just some thoughts but the best thing you could do is take me next time - hehe __________________ Richard|Sea Fishing |Carp Fishing| Spud Gun | Zander fishing | Fishing Reports | Hunting Reports |
