| Last Few Sessions Before Uni Life Hello everyone, I would like to start by thanking Peter (Dubbed Squirrel) who gave me great advise on fly selection for my trip up the Mourne Mountains. He helped me catch 2 nice wee brownies on what has to be the worst day of the year so far, it rained from morning to night and blew a gale the whole day and i mean it was horrendous conditions! There are no pics from that day as didn't want to risk testing how waterproof the camera was ![]() Just remembering now aswell... my cousin has the pics of the fish and reservoir we fished on the first trip to the mournes too! I do however have some pics of the general scenery. For the Mourne mountain trips we walked approx. 8 miles to reach the reservoir. It always had looked 'fishy' to me so i really wanted to have a crack at trying to catch something from it! I started fly fishing with a small 'March Brown' fly as it was what did the damage for me in Norway a few years previous and to my surprise on the 3rd cast i had hooked my first Mournes brownie, it was thee most stunning brown trout i have ever caught, was incredible. (i'll get pics asap). I kept on going for around 3 hours and had 5 to just over half a pound. The next weekend saw us return in awful conditions as i have already said but we managed 2 of around half a pound on similar flies. Here we go... The car park is in the distance... Somewhere ![]() That small speck of water in the distance is the end of the reservoir View up the Mourne wall to the rocky tors View over Co.Down Me trying to be arty!![]() and again... Also excuse the patched up reel! ![]() That was it for the Mourne trips, although i have been out a few places recently and havent been taking photos. However i did manage a new PB perch last weekend, must have been over 1.5lbs for sure, also had 6pike to 8lbs the same day. ![]() During the week i fished the same venue until lunch time and had 5pike to 5lbs and in the afternoon (after getting soaked, through my umbrella ) , moved onto another lake but unfortunately blanked.![]() ![]() I was out on sunday on our homemade boat for more or less the 3rd or 4th time, im not confident on a boat so thats why it has been left unused for near 3 years i would think. I thought to myself it was such a waste, so i got the battery charged for the outboard, got it geared up and set off yesterday and landed 5 pike to 6lbs from it! now i think im hooked on piking from a boat ![]() That was a whirlwind report but its all i have time for folks so it'll have to do! | Re: Last Few Sessions Before Uni Life Hi Justin, sorry I missed this post, haven`t been on the forum for a while . That scenery could be anywhere in the Scottish Highlands, especially with that rain . It reminds me of Loch Eck and the surrounding area, on the West Coast. Cracking pics, well done too on the PB perch and good luck at Uni. |
