As you all know the weather has been a tad breezy as of late but it wasnt stopping me from having a 24 hour barbel session at collingham weir yesterday.
The plan was to set off early doors and try and get on peg one, which is the last peg before the weir and barbel central.
As usual my plan went to the dogs as there were already 3 anglers crammed on peg one when we got there so we decided to fish peg 7 which is about 200 metres from the weir.


This is only the second time Ive fished here because Ive always been put off by the popularity of the place but today wasnt too bad,and apart from the guys on peg one we were the only ones there.
Needless to say the wind was a nightmare and it was a battle just trying to keep my rods upright. after some DIY involving a few bungees and some rocks the rods were steady.
Then nothing for 12 hours Not even a knock, , even the fish wernt daft enough to be out in this.
The only bit of action we had was a bit of a row over bait with one of the locals.

Feeling a bit miffed I decided to nip to the local chippy for some tea, I know its terrible but hey why eat soggy sarnies when theres a chippy a mile or two down the road.
Off I went down the long lane to the main road when the wind went ape !, the dust from the fields began to form mini tornadoes and all the trees were being battered to and fro.

I got a call from my fishing buddy telling me the surge in wind had caught my shelter and bust it. Great! I thought and began brooding all the way to and from the chippy. I was really peed off and the thought of selling all my gear had come to mind.

When I arrived back with tea the weather had completely transformed and the last bit of wind must have been some sort of creshendo as everywhere was now flat calm.

I pollished the chips of and re-cast. The light faded fast and before I knew it it was 21:00 and still no bites.
Then out of nowhere my left hand rod started giving it what for.. I struck and was in... after a few seconds I realised I was into a barbel.
I landed it but didnt have time to weigh as my mate had one on and needed help.So quick snap and back in he went.
I helped my mate land his and then re-cast my rod

Then for the next 7 hours it was non stop, as if someone had turned a light switch on (or off to be more acurate).
Every time I settled in my chair either me or my mate had a run.
Altogether I landed 9 barbel and my mate had 5.
I managed a PB at 11.1lbs and another PB of 11.4lbs straight after.
At 4am it finally went quiet so I brought the rods in and got a couple hours shut eye.
I couldnt believe how much of a difference the darkness had made.
Its the best barbel session I have ever had breaking my PB twice in a row !
Went home anout 8 oclock with a sore back from all the action !!! I reckon that will be my last night this year so what a great way to finnish !!

kernackered, should be able to repair it tho, its a brolly system and the spines have popped out of the main ring

absolutely brill madison some nice barbs there fantastic ,,,has the wire broke that holds all the splines to the collar on the center pole mine did that mate made a new wire for my brolly did the job

I forgot to add.... my mate got a run around half seven, as it got close in we discovered he had snagged another line, I waded in, retrevied the line by hand and managed to net the barbel which was atatched to a number 4 hook, lead core and a 8 ounce grippa lead ! gear more suitable for bloody catfish in spain !
I dont know how but the barbel was unharmed so we untangled him and off he went. some people need to pull there fingers out and start learning how to fish properly
