Cookham weir

Popped down to Cookham weir earlier today to try out some fishing with bread.

Tried using a river float on black 2lb line with a size 12 barbless hook and a flakey piece of white bread, had loads of nibbles but no real bites, even though i baited the swim with mushed bread.
I let lots of line off so the float could flow down river where the mushed bread was but just not a positive bite. I really thought i was gonna catch a nice chub or roach.

A really cool guy walking his dog set my rod up with a ledger rig using my gear and i let him have a play, few bites but nothing positive to make a strike. He had some nice barble and a 24lb+ carp from the same spot last year.

Not sure i like the 'bread' bait, im sure if i was using maggot on a feeder or even a float i would of had a fish or 4 ????

Anyway, better luck next time i guess.

Re: Cookham weir

You were probably using the wrong bread

If you're fishing a weir pool try worms.

Re: Cookham weir

grow your own worns mate! build a nice big compost heap and chuck in a tub of brandlings. wait a few months for the worms to settle in, have babies etc and harvest when you need them! simples.

Well you have my permission to completely ignore whoever told you that!

Lobworm cut into one or two inch segments and whole brandlings or red worm are what you need.

If you have space in the garden do what Andy suggests and make your own wormery.
