Woodlands Fishery, Thirsk

Had my yearly fishing holiday in Yorkshire this year at the Woodlands complex.

My opinion on the venue is, some lakes aren't worth looking at and are more of a health risk than anything else but some lakes on the other hand are lovely and have nice quality fish in them!

It was nearly a month ago and to be honest i forget details, i've just been that busy getting Uni stuff sorted in the last month i have hardly had a chance to breath never mind write a report... although i have found time to fish but i'll do them reports at another stage

The first few days we had mixed success, i had small bream, Ide, crucians tench, brown goldfish, common, ghost and mirror carp which is all good cause it means more points for the hunt!

My tactics throughout the week where to fish short in the margins with maggots fished over a bed for groundbait and small pellets on one rod and have the other rod at far feature on method feeder or similar.

The fish averaged about 6lbs (biggest being 11lbs) and most where in good condition, the skimmers were a little annoying but we just had to deal with them! Fishing was slow during the day but picked up late evening which is to be expected.

Here are a few photos of the fish, sorry for the awful report but its the best i can do! (I promise my next report from the Mourne Mountains will contain some great photos!)

I look forward to getting back on here more often now i have uni stuff sorted!

@ Peter (DubbedSquirrel) if you are reading... Just wanted to say i hope you are prepared for some fly fishing related questions! I have got myself back into fluff chucking after my 'Adventure Fishing' up the Mourne Mountains at the weekend

Thanks,

Justin

Hi Justin, nice report - glad you had nice hols. Also well done on getting to uni, which uni are you going, what are you studying, and.....more importantly...will you still have enough spare time for fishing!

Cheers Baz, Thanks! I'm going to the University of Ulster, starting in a few weeks and am to study Geography. To answer the most important question, yes i'll be finding time to fish one way or another!

Here is a sneak preview of my next report to come! Plus... whatever is to be at a similar venue on sunday!

That photo is taken at 700 odd metres!

Re: Woodlands Fishery, Thirsk

Instead of starting a new thread... would anyone be able to give me advice on brown trout flies?

Justin - Peter (Dubbed Squirrel) is the man to speak to about brown trout flies, as he is always logged on here (as you know), although there are other many other good fly anglers in ere too...
p.s. Looking forward to yer next report - cracking photo of the mountains, makes me tired just thinking about walking around up there.
