Quick session at Dudmaston Big Pool

Well, I finished work and decided I was going to have to get a tench fix.

That and the fact I'd bought a new rod (Middy Twin Tip Barbel) and wanted to try it out.

So off I went to Dudmaston hall.

Fished the point swim. Started about 20:00 hours knowing I probably only had just over an hour.

Out went the new rod on the method feeder and the 11ft PMS was rigged up to float fish in about 9 foot of water about three rod lengths out.

I always look for something to aim at, in this swim there is a gap in the trees across the lake. The gap leavs alovely reflection at just the right spot and is ideal for accuracy.

This was the first time I had NOT used hemp as my last minute decision to come meant I did not have time to defrost any.

Groundbait was brown crumb with some expolosive method mix and some chocolate flavour fishemeal stuff too. bait on the feeder was luncheon meat.

On the PMS I used a 2 swan waggler and fished some sweetcorn with a no 4 shot on the deck.

First mistake was that I should have had the rods set up the other way round. The Middy is 12 foot and the Diawa 11 foot so the middy would have been better for float work. Secondly I had the avon top rather than the much slimmer quiver top on.

Never mind.

In the just under two hours I caught 4 fish, this time with two males (the first from Dudmaston for me) about three pounds and two females around the four to five mark.

Next time I will be fishing for longer and might just have to give the lilly pad swim a go.

Piccys follow _

Re: Quick session at Dudmaston Big Pool

Cheef, yes it is Kinver Freeliners and there are no day tickets. Each member is allowed one guest permit a year. Mine is already spoken for so I can't help you out there. As you are in Kiddy have a chat with Des Taylor (at SBS) to see if he knows anyone who might be willing to take you along. It's also worth an email to Steve Williams if you are interested in joing the club. There is a currently a waiting list but it can't do any harm. I was cheering like a pillock when Steve told me I'd got in I can tell you.

Re: Quick session at Dudmaston Big Pool

Great report and pictures and excellent Tench.

I love fishing estate lakes and Dudmaston Hall Lake sounds like a very nice place; you are very priviledged to be able to fish there.
It woud be great to see a couple of close-up pictures of the lake.

If the weather holds then I might fish my clubs local estate lake in Hertfordshire on Friday evening as seeing your Tench has whet my appetite. I hope I do half as well as you.
