| Catfish After blanking on my second Catfish trip last month I decided I would give Jimmy's Lake another go last Thursday. I arrived 3.00pm, few hours earlier than anticipated and was over the moon to find I had the whole lake to myself. I chose a swim that allowed me to fish the opening of a bay and also cast towards the main area of the lake. It was a tight swim, not allowing overhead casting, but it was a spot that gave me many options. For bait I started off with hair rigged Catfish bollies and lob worm on the rod cast to the bay to my right. The second rod was baited with a large Halibut pellet and two lob worms popped 6" off the bottom, fished to the centre of the lake. I fished with a slack line and free spool on both rods. Within an hour of fishing I had a screaming run on the Halibut and worm pop up, which resulted in a Cat of 14lb. I had two more runs on this rod, resulting in two more Cats of 17 and 17.5lb I then missed a run on the same rod; I decided to alter my rig so the bait was on the bottom. I also changed the Catfish boilies rod, to fish halibut pellet and worm on the bottom. After every fish/run I catapulted ten or so halibut pellets into the swim. Within ten minutes of changing from boilie to pellet on the bay rod it was off, after a battle that seemed to last forever trying to keep the Cat away from the reeds I finally netted the 27.5lb Cat, my biggest to date. Anyway to cut a long story short, I finished fishing at 7.00am Friday. I had fifteen runs in total, missing one run, losing three Cats and landing eleven. Five of the Cats were over twenty pound, 20, 21, 24, 24.5, and 27.5lb the others were 10, 14, 17, 17.5, 18.5 and 19.5lb. Roll on next time; I will only be doing a day though. Darrell |

| Re: Catfish [quote=PikeHunter;233364]Brilliant mate. That looks a quality lake! What other species are in it?[/QU The lake is not bad, the picture shows one of two bays, the main body of the lake is overlooked by a few houses. swims are tight, many of the swims you will struggle to overhead cast. The lake is stocked with carp to low thirties, loads of Bream and a huge head of cats. Darrell |
