late night bassin

was bored last night so I decided to hit up the local lagoon with a buddy. fished for 20 minutes with a rattle trap for nothing. switched to a albino/blue flake superfluke and right off the bat caught 2 small keepers. fished for another 20 minutes for nothing until i got this one to strike my fluke.

I dont really do my fish justice being that I'm 6'5" and close to 230lbs, but she was close to 4lbs, and i'm not drunk or stoned, just not a good pic

Re: late night bassin

A rattle trap is a lipless crankbait. it is loaded with small metal balls that send of tons of vibrations and makes a rattling noise when being retrieved, hints the name rattle trap, here is a pic, chrome is by far my favortive color

Re: late night bassin

Good one - Damage inc

We used to find the blue/silver or the browny orange like a 'spec' was the best rattle-trap. What colour were you using? Are you using Braid?

Did you try surface poppers ? They often good at night. For some reason black plastic worms seemed the best color worm at night.

These guys here don't know about LM Bass baits so it would be helpful if you could take a pix showing the different baits you use. Worms, lizards, craws, rattle traps, plugs and poppers etc. etc.

Good luck and keep 'em coming - the lunker's not far away.

Re: late night bassin

During the summer a chrome/blueback rattle trap is my bait of choice. I had several 20 bass days just last summer on this bait.
Another good bait, and the bait I caught the fish on pictured above is called the zoom superfluke. Awhile back Richard posted a pic of a pike he caught on a storm wildeye split tail minnow, the superflake is the same type of lure known as a soft jerkbait. it is retrieved with hard twitches of the wrist, reeling in the slack and so on here is a pic of the superfluke, one of my favorites is the glimmer blue:

As far as poppers and other topwater baits are concerned, they are more of a seasonal bait being most affective in the later months of the summer into the early fall, it is still a little early for the bass to be bustin the surface.
What you said about the black worms is correct. Generaly the darker the water, hte darker the bait you want to use, Good colors for nightime fishing or lowvisibility water are: black with any color flake, watermelon, brown, motor oil, i think you get the picture. vis versa for clear water, lighter colors are the ticket.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask
p.s. for all you carp fisherman, I found a dead carp the otherday that wieghed 21.5lbs, it was huge, I took a pic with my friends camera, so hopefully i can post it later

Re: late night bassin

Nice posting Damage Inc,

Agree top-water is more summer/fall BUT this time of year we've had some real good'uns using a thunderstick? (think that's what it was called, floating 4" black/yellow striped with propeller at tail - can get them in Walmarts) . Fished from the boat 'walking the dog' just on the outside of the lily beds.

Also plastic lizards, using no weight 'twitching' across the lily pads and droppingin the gaps; on sunny days . I'm sure the bass can see the outline and movement of the bait thru the lily pad when it's sunny and hit hard.

Anything seems worth a try sometimes
