| I smashed my PB Took myself off to Carlton Meres holiday park in Saxmundham this weekend. My folks own a residential property there so its free to fish and I get to use (abuse) there facilities. On Saturday evening i set myself up on the left bank of the bottom lake and got comfy for a 2 night session. I was using snowman cell rigs on the bottom and had high hopes for a good weekend.  I had 2 short runs in the early hours and actually watched my bobbins lift up to the rods and back down again on more than one occassion. But not one fish! On sunday the sun was beating down and it was in the high 20s by lunch time. I was keeping out of the sun but could'nt escape the heat. I had cleverly placed my bivvi under a willow tree so it stayed cool in there.  I dozed off about 12.30 for an hour and woke up to one of those 'have i just been in the shower' moments. I decided to pull in the rods and freshen the bait. As i walked toward them, the right one went mad and I grabbed it and lifted it high. As i looked out on the lake I saw a golden slab glinting on the surface and new i was into something good. I called up to the guy in the next swim to help me as i gently edged the dosile looking mirror to the bank. I was so relieved as he carfully placed the net under it. I struggled to lift it up the bank and my heart was racing as i new this was easily over my 16.5lb PB. once in the weigh sling I struggled to lift it and my helper said.... 16, 17, 17.2...'tell you what, i'll hold the fish and you read it' . Bo**ocks I thought, thats got to be over 17. As he lifted it my digital scales shot up and locked at 25.33lb.. How pleased was I, I nearly hugged the bloke.  Sadly enough that was my only fish in 40 hours. Not sure why but everyone else seemed to be struggling. But to me it was well worth the trip.. 30lb next... __________________ I snagged.., 5lb tench, 25.3lb common, 16.4lb mirror , 2.2lb roach, 4 lb chub and 10lb Ghost.     |
