Species hunt reports

ok here are a few reports on catches submitted to the species hunt..

I had just an hour and a half spare last night, so I made a dash for the Teme and my first barbel session of the season. Fishing an 11mm halibut pellet on a hair and feeding pellets in a variety of sizes did the job. First cast and only 5 mins into the session the tip pulled round and this lovely barbel was the result - my best ever from the Teme !

I was fishing the LAS Esthwaite Pike Cup event with my boat partner Steve and we found a nice sheltered bay where there was plenty of weed in 6 foot of water. Casting a 12cm Savage Gear 4-play liplure in hot copper produced this nice pike. Steve upstaged my though by having a fish of 17lb 8oz also on a 4play. The really nice thing is we won the competition for the second year running and picked up the prizes for best fish and best fish on a savage gear lure . There is a full report of the competition here http://www.luretour.com/?p=866

I've been trying to find somewhere that i can consistently catch good perch on lures for some time. Looks like I may have found my perfect location as this is the 8th nice perch I've had from this pit in just 2 sessions. It weighed 2lb 3oz and hit an OSP Blitz MR crankbait fished at about 5 foot depth in 12 foot of water. Surprisingly good fight for a perch too! There is a full review of the lure in question here http://www.luretour.com/?p=894

during my search for a consistent perch water near my home I spent a bit of time fishing the droitwich canal. There is a fair amount of boat traffic at this time of the year, so I fished it 3 times very early in the morning before the boats had churned up the silt. In total I caught zero perch! . Then in the very last 5 mins of the last session I had a nice hit on the lure and felt a nice solid fish on the end. I reeled in expecting to see my first stripey from the venue only to find a rather surprised looking bream hooked fair and square in the mouth!! If you fancy a go at lure fishing for bream the lure in question is a salmo hornet in pink.

Ok final catch report. My lad and his mate wanted to go to a local commercial for a spot of maggot drowning, so I agreed to take them along and fished one of the other lakes on the complex. The fishing was a bit too easy to be honest and I had plenty of roach, bream, mirrors and commons. The best fish of the day came just as the lads had packed up and came over to ask if I was ready to go. So I got the lad to take a pic of the fish for the species hunt. caught on single red maggot right in the margins. I didn't weigh the fish.
