A wet day at Crockerton

Had a few hours on our club lake "Crockerton" yesterday. The weather was not ideal, heavy rain & thunderstorms but hunkered down under my brolly i managed to make myself comfortable & set up two carp rods baited with Richworth Robin Red boilies. I started off fishing under the nearside bushes on peg 9 which is usually good for a fish or two, but no bites were forthcoming. So I cast out to the right of the island where i'd noticed a few fish moving. I was soon getting short bleeps & line bites on my fox alarms & after about 20 minutes I struck into a nice steady run. This resulted in a 5" skimmer bream that had managed to get a 15mm boilie & size 8 hook into it's tiny mouth
Things then went very quiet for a few hours until I was rudely awakened by a screamer of a run from this nice hard fighting Common......

I fished on for another couple of hours, but could only manage one more bream, although this one did weigh a couple of pounds more than the last one & eventually decided i'd had enough by about 8pm.
As usual there was lots to watch with hundreds of baby frogs emerging from the lake, & the usual kingfishers, ducks & geese. The only downer was watching a tiny moorhen chick which I think had fallen from it's nest, slowly drown whilst it's mother ignored it. There was nothing I could do to help except let nature take it's course. Nature can be very cruel at times....

Well done GH for braving the weather, that common must have made it worthwhile. Shame about the chick though.

I don't mind thunderstorms if i'm snug in a waterproof bivvy with fibreglass poles, but not so happy when sitting under a brolly with metal ribs & bankspike or clutching 16 metres of carbon lightning conductor ......
