First fish newbie report from Rosebury Reservoir, near Edinburgh.

After a failed Loch Earn trip we decided to go to a smaller and more local Fishery at Rosebury Reservoir.

Spent too much time faffing with chosing which lure and putting the wrong floats on for the weight of the shot but finally got going at a small quiet inlet with still water.

Used a kinder surprise capsule with holes drilled as a feeder* and worms for bait, then after a few mins from the first cast managed to get this little chap.

Perch isnt it?

Then after a while as the sun was setting and magic hour approached i ended up with this chap.

2 1/4lb Rainbow, whos the smug one then.

Seems that boilys were the key, and even got some of those red bait balls we were throwing to the areas we casted. (Is this the correct usage?)

But in all i finally caught my first fish and had a great evening on the loch with a friend and a bottle of 1999 Chateau Olivier.

Thanks to all who helped in my fng thread to get me to here. Invaluable.

P.s Put the Perch(?) back dont worry, obviously only a tiddler.

Re: First fish newbie report from Rosebury Reservoir, near Edinburgh.

A boilie is a type of bait made from a mixture of flours ,eggs and flavourings. This is mixed into a paste then rolled into balls and then boiled. hence the term boilie.

Yeah i think thats where the confusion started, i read it on the side of the boilie bag on the instructions and thought thats what you put them in.
