No perch only pike 2

We set up either side of a small bay, it was nice to have solid ground underfoot


Mate set up a float rod and baited with maggot and worms, while I set up spinning rod with a small rubber lure. 2nd cast I had a take on the lure, a small jack of about 2.1/2lbs, so unprepared we had to make an unhooking mat out of a black bag, water and grass. The lure was taking jacks regularly now, mostly about the 1-2lb mark.

Mate`s float went under, at last a perch, then the rod was almost pulled from his hands and huge pike leapt out of the water. Line was whizzing off the reel, then just when he was gaining some ground, the line went slack and the pike was gone. The next monsoonpassed overheadand by now the solid groung resembled a swamp, making it difficult to move about. So no big perch, but plenty of small jacks, making it all worth while. We stayed `til the light began to fade, then home for a Magners or three.

Nice one Peter - great report. Makes a change from the trout for you I suppose, though it does look a bit "squelchy" underfoot by the waters edge..
Well done on the pike. Shame the big un got away. I like the last 2 photo's the best..

Hi Baz, thoroughly enjoyed the day, even the first part of it seems funny now, although not at the time. Had to ask directions to this section of the forum though lol.
