| Unusual catch, by unusual methods. way back in the olden days, well 1909 to be precise a hydraulic ram engine was installed between the middle and specimen lakes at Longleat. Back in 2001 I became an agricultural tennat, renting the estates old walled kitchen garden, now the estate has serviced the ram, but it fell to me to fine tune it and sort out supply issues. One of my tasks was to drain the housing so we could fine tune the beast. As water drained out, we notice a range of little creatures, then Fi, who was helping said, theres a fish, well as the housing was being completely drained, we needed to save the poor thing, even it it had been a bream, but it turned out to be a stone loach, having only sen one n books I was quite chuffed, sadly as it was trapped in about 1/2 inch of water, by hand I don't think I can claim it as either points or for the species hunt, but it was nice to see, get a quick snap and release, into the out fall from the specimen lake, its probably back in the housing. ![]() __________________ Ignore the margins at your peril |

| Re: Unusual catch, by unusual methods. Brings back memories of when I was a small lad in the late 50s. My mates and I used to catch stone loach in our local shallow stream, we used to paddle along with our nets overturning rocks and scooping our nets in the debris that was disturbed, we also had a few Millers Thumbs as well. plus as the usual minnows and sticklebacks in the stream using either our nets or our small Cane rods with a matchstick as a float or a small crowquill. Nice to see one after all these years. __________________ My Web Site (The Average Coarse Angler) Happiness is Fish Shaped (It used to be woman shaped but the wifes getting on a bit now) |
