| BAA Nordley No 1 - Carp off the top. Well the weather's been that good I couldn't help it. One look out of the window and I though, it's got to be carp off the top at Nordley No 1 or 2. So I got home, had my tea and set off about 6. I like to fish the last two hours of light as I think they are the most productive AND most people are packing up and leaving which means I usually get the lake to myself. Arrived at Nordley at about quarter to seven and set the rod up in the car park. Used 8 LB Diawa Sensor main line and Middy LoViz 6.3 hook length, Hook was a 12 , probably Drennan super speci but the label in the hook box wasn't clear. I used a home made dumpy (and heavy) float controller, a leger stop to stop it running down to the hook length but nothing above it so the float just comes clear if a fish snaps the rig. Bait was a fake dog biscuit, s fake sweetcorn on a hair with a boilie stop. The sweetcorn acts like a float top and makes it easy to see IF it faces towards you. Anyway I quickly dampened some dog buscuits in some lake water to which I added (probably way too much) scopex. Quickly poured the excess off and cast out. Waited a few minutes then fired out the now heavier biscuits. Well I was epexting the carp to go nuts and they just didn't read the script. Odd rise here and there but not the session I thought might happen. had a quick chat with the other guy on the lake who was travelling light (I had a rod, net, unhooking mat/seat and a collapsing bucket with bits in), and I'd seen catch one and he said, yes you know, here it comes, well they were feeding like hell yesterday , I had eight. I knew he wasn't BSing because I know the lake can produce like that when it's on. Anyway , the sun hit the horizon and the few remaining anglers left (too early in my opinion , but it's their days fishing not mine). It was just me and the guy who was also feeding off the top. Then it was just me. What happened? The fish were feeding intermittently on my bank but were showing about 30 yards or so across the lake . So I made a speculative cast and then got the binoculars out for a peek at what was going on. I was watching my bait when it was suddenly engulfed and after a spirited fight there was a fish on the bank. It turned out to be the one and only and things didn't really pick up , but heck, it wasn't a blank. No idea of the weight as I left my scales somewhere in my garage. | Re: BAA Nordley No 1 - Carp off the top. Its really nice up there isn't it, I live just round the corner. I bailiff it inthe closed season and there was a few people fishing on the top the other week when it was hot. I must get up there and have a go having never been pond fishing!! What sort of rod should I go for?? Cheers |

| Re: BAA Nordley No 1 - Carp off the top. Tim, aha! a keyboard rather than a phone. You've probably got a few as I use my Diawa PMS 11foot 1.5 through action avon rod. Ideal for casting a float and with enough give to land decent fish without pulling the hook out. __________________ Just remember, not all the heroes died. www.helpforheroes.org.uk |
