| Carp off the top at Llay Reservoir, North Wales I went down to Llay Reservoir for the first time this year for some carp fishing. The tactics were to fish off the top using chum mixer dog biscuits that have been soaked overnight. I simply free line them on a hair rig. It was a nice sunny day so perfect conditions for this type of fishing. Started with the biggest, a nice Common carp: Common carp: Mirror carp: Then finally the smallest of the bunch but definately the strongest fighter. It took me by suprise as I had my eyes off the water rigging up my second rod. The rod was nearly doubled over, an it took a while before I saw the fish. I thought it was a 15lber but it was actually only a 5lber. Still a stunning fish. Mirror carp: I finished off with 3 really big Roach, 2 using typical Roach tactics on my second rod. Then the biggest Roach i've caught which actually took a big chum mixer off the surface! Couldn't believe the greedy git took a mixer that big. Gutted I didn't bring my scales and sling, or my unhooking mat for that matter. 2 Common carp, 2 Mirror carp and 3 big Roach, not bad for 6 hours fishing.     |

The weather was absolutely awesome and perfect for fishing off the surface. Day 1: Me: 2 Mirror Carp 1 Common Carp 2 Roach Dad: 2 Mirror Carp 2 Common Carp Day 2: Me: 3 Mirror Carp 1 Common Carp 3 Roach Dad: 2 Mirror Carp 2 Roach We were really impressed with the size of the Roach, again taking big mixers off the surface. We were expecting to catch more carp than we did really but although it was very sunny, there was a strong side wind which made things difficult.
