First trip to the local in 2011.

Vast changes within the household has put paid to a few earlier planned visits, still it was nice to dust off the rods.
Vale Farm Fishery was the location, I arrived at around 5pm, safe in the knowledge I could fish until dark, first rod in was placed to my right tight against a Weeping Willow, using 20mm Halibut Pellet on hair rig and PVA Mesh with 3 & 6mm pellets as loose feed, before I had a chance to get the second rod out, I had a confident run, within a few minutes a nice plump 4lb Common Carp was safe in the landing net. 1.5 Points for the species hunt for The Amigos.

I took the chance to put the second rod out, this time slightly to my left at a range of about 15ft, and baited with 12mm Halibut Pellet and again PVA 3 & 6mm pellets. I then got the first rod back out.
I did not have to wait too long before the second rod was singing, I struck into a better fish, again a Common who pulled the scales down to 7lb 6oz, nice fish and a good fight too.

Things went a little quiet for a while until the righthand bite alarm broke the silence, within a short space of time, a lovely Mirror Carp nestled into the landing net, weighing in at around 6 and half lb, another 1.5 points of the Amigos.

After the Mirror I had two smaller Mirrors one at about 2lb and one at 4lb 4ozs, and then a small common, again at around the 4lb mark, then as I settled into a well earn cup of coffee, my second rod had a strange bite develope, I struck and was met with a solid and strong ressitance, the fish stayed low for what seemed like an eternity, first thoughts were that it could be one of the huge Bream, but then I remembered how my PB Tench fought, and this was similar, I finally got it to roll on the surface and I could then see it was a Tench, but it was huge, it was bigger than the Common I had taken earlier, excitement and a small amount of "I really need to get this in" set in, but it proved fatal, the Tinca made its last run and then popped back on the surface no more than 3ft from the landing net, then as quick as bolt of lightning, it was gone having spat the hook.......absolutely gutting!!! guestimate of weigh, a DOUBLE FIGURE!!!!!!!! Whatever was caught after this would not make up for loosing the Tench of a lifetime!!

As darkness fell the bites started to dry up, but with 9pm upon me, I had a take on the second rod, which was hit and felt like a small carp, within seconds, the first rod alarm went off, again I struck and it felt better, problem now, as I had both hands full, the drag on Shimano Aero's are easy to get too until you only have one hand for the rod and the reel, in my eagerness to slacken the drag off the second rod, I gave it too much slack and the hook pulled, but the first rod's drag had been set correctly, so that fish was still on, and it wasn't long before another Vale Farm Common was in the net, again around 6lb.

All in all, an enjoyable yet frustrating session, but at least I managed another 3 points for the Species Hunt for the Amigos.

Off down there again first thing Sunday morning with the huge Tinca's being my main target, have just set up a proper rig for them, good old lift method, just hope that I can locate them again.

Yeeesss!! What a day, sounds like a great venue. I love days like that and the loss of the Tinca only fuels the fires for the next trip - Good Luck and hope you land it next time...
