A few carp on the fly

Just got back from a great little evening session fly fishing for carp on my local lakes at Higher Farm . Jerry Two Jackets , Fullcreel & myself were all keen to make the most of a lovely afternoon practising our fly casting and hopefully catching a fish or two .
Plan was to feed dog biscuits & fish with a special dog biscuit fly . Yesterday I'd bought a 2.5Kg bag of Wagg mixer, when I opened the bag I was very happy to see that this brand I'd not used before were almost identical in size & shape to the flies I have . However when me and Jerry got to the lake I threw a couple of handfuls in only for them to sink straight to the bottom quick sink biscuits , that was a new one on me .
Without any freebies to get the fish feeding on the surface we struggled to get a bite , luckily Fullcreel came along later with a nice big bag of bouyant Chum mixer that made all the difference and the fish where soon scoffing all the Chum while spitting out our flies as usual . We did all manage a few fish though :

all in all a great fun session on a glorious afternoon and a great way for me & Jerry to get some much needed casting practice befor going after the Rainbows on Sunday .
And all rounded off with a good meal & an ale in the pub after .

It's a nice quite little fishery more suited to pleasure anglers than bivvy boys .

Its all true, no fishermans tales, I did arrive and save the day.
I made my way up to the top lake, as I did not want to corwd JP and Jerry.
My choice of swim was dictated by the wind, which at times was pretty strong, and as the carp here don't get to large, I tend to use a 5/6 weight set up.
Anyway, after a few miutes the carp became active on my freebies.

As usual the carp had fun playing with the flies, and my reactions were a bit slow at times, but I managed to bank a few.
This is one of the larger ones, about 6lbs, rather fat, and I thought a tad early for spawning.

I wandered down to the middle lake, and got some pics of Jerry in action.

And the result.

I was pleased to connect with a hard fighting mirror, some points for the Ruffe-Ians....
