At least my landing net and unhooking mat are dry..

Decided to use up the deadbaits from the freezer - sardine, herring, smelt, and roach - and went up Exeter canal, Lime Kilns area again. Didnt do an early start today, so got up there about 10.30, which meant driving for 40 minutes through a torrential downpour, and it was still chucking it down when I got there so I was glad I had brought my brolly. I set up at the usual swim, opposite the boats, as I have had a couple of fish from there, and quite a few missed runs in the past.
Set up the rods, cast out herring and sardine to start with and then sat back under the brolly with a cuppa and sandwich and waited.....until 6.30 pm when I decided to pack up and go home. Not a run, bite or anything on any of my baits. Tried in the margins, towards the far bank and boats, in the middle, pop up deadbaits, legered deadbaits, smelt, herring, roach, sardine - nowt.!!!! There was a mild easterly, (and downpour until midday at least) which can put the fishing off on the canal, as I dont think I have had a good days fishing on there when the wind has been from the east = at least thats my excuse and I am sticking to it. The water was a bit coloured too. One week its gin clear, the next its a muddy brown colour!

I think I will get my walking boots on next time, and get the lure rod out and see if that brings me any success (and perhaps the double figure pike I am trying to get!!!)
The rain did stop, and the wind dropped, plus the sun came out - at about 4.00 pm so the last couple of hours although fishless were quite pleasant and warm. Messed around with the camera again, so have attached some photos (without any pike in them!!)

Me, taking it easy under the brolly

Told you it was raining..

Nearly time to pack up..

When the wind dropped, I liked the reflection on the water from the old boat

Another one of the old boat.

Nah M_T, it sinks lower every so often, and then they empty it again. It was well down in the water last year, leaning over to one side but they managed to get it upright again - dont know why as I dont think it will ever be used again
