End of season on the river.

I have not reported for a while, soley because the fish have been getting the better of me quite a bit recently, too much as far as I am concerned, the only succes I have had has come on a trip to a very well stocked little commercial firshery.

Now, I had a few hours spinning on the Avon at Swineford on friday, I had a meeting in Keynsham at 10am, and rather than drive through bath at Rush hour, I chose to leave very early, and get a few hours in.
As usual the fish outwitted me, although I did see an otter, playing with a swan mussel, nice to see, but having seen one once, thats all I want to see.

I was back on the Farm this morning, checking ona few things, and as JP and I had planned on getting a session in on moving water before the end of the season, ha came along to the farm, then being the wise men we are we found a good place to park and get a bit too eat and some needed liquid refreshemnt.
The Swan is a lovely pub, and less than 100 yrds form the river. Nice barmaind too.

JP had a bite first cast, then we both struggle, but to be honest I was not worried. It was really nice just to be there, no traffic noise, skylarks singing, the odd kingfisher and lovely sunny weather.

JP Fishing,

I heard some strange noises, comming from down stream, and went ot in vestigate, and was suprised to see this crossing the bridge.

I moved downstream after afew hours, of no fish, and managed a small chub, touch ledgering a lob worm, I was suprised not to have anything on maggots.

Chub, and points too.

Re: End of season on the river.

Was a great afternoon out . Only one small chub each but so nice to be sitting in the sun both at the pub & on the bank . Almost had a feisty little perch too , put up a hell of a fight before he reluctantly let go of the tail of the worm & skulked off back to the depths .
So that's it for three months , might get some of those chores done now . .... Hmmm , haven't had the fly rods out for a while though ..

I woke at 6 something, worked for a few hours. Honest. Went back to work when I returned.

Re: End of season on the river.

Great report, and pictures. Nice to get a fish too. That pub looks great - much better than all these modern gin palaces.

Re: End of season on the river.

Nice to see some local guys on the forum, I fished both Saturday and Sunday.

I went for the Isle near Langport on Saturday as the Parrett at my favourite spots at Cocklemoor was full up. It was a bit windy so hard to control my stick float on the centrepin as the wind was blowing downstream. I struggled on the float, only 3 small Chub to 10oz but changed to maggot feeder for the last hour. The result was my best ever Chub, 5lb on the scales after deducting the net. Full of spawn she was.

Sunday I chose to fish the Tone in Taunton. Again the wind made it tricky on the stick float but I was suprised I struggled to get bites as the Tone is usually pretty easy going. In the end I had 3 Roach to 12oz, a couple Grayling, a Chublet and some minnows.

Roll on June 16th

Pic of Chub below...Hopefully
