| A joy to be back Went out today for the first time since I had a major op. in October. It was sunny but as there was a nip to the air, I didn't want to be too static so I went for a stroll along the River Allen in Wimborne with a light rod, my newly acquired 'boot sale' pin and some maggots. Despite the cold and gin clear water. the fish were on. A real mixed bag started off with a minnow, then the prettiest little brownie, only about 3" long but perfect in every way. A couple of grayling came next before I got to my final glide which provided more of the same plus some nice roach up to 12 oz and finally, on my very last trot, a dace of about 8oz. The fresh air and walking have knackered me but I'll go to bed a happy man. |

| Re: A joy to be back That sounds like a nice way to get back into it. Is that a free section of the river? I am looking for somewhere to get a few early species and really fancy a Grayling. | Re: A joy to be back Good to hear your on the mend... The Allen has to be one of the prettiest rivers in Dorset. Never really seen it colour up. I have seen some of the biggest grayling there. They are the same strain as the Frome grayling. Are you lucky enough to have a syndicate ticket somewhere there? Well done on getting out. DB&DB |
