Short session ona new water Well, the rivers been there for aeons, but we, as a club have agreed va deal on it, not signed, but the owners said some of us could cast a line, testing the water. JP, who for some disgraceful reason was on the water in the early hours, I was trapped in the house, firstly by work, needing to check 1000's of seedlings, plus surveying some storm damage. Secondly there is an annual 10k road race which goes past my house twice, not too much of an inconvience, in fact its a decent letch, quitye a few lady runners in lycra outfits. Any, having recovered from the nice side of the runners, the nasty being the hefalumps who decide on new years eve to get into fitness lumbering past the cottage, I met up with JP, who was at the bridge by the main road. I had the tackole from my session at Higher Farm, a couple of weekends ago, along witha few maggies, so I stuck with the wand. As we all know, its a tad windy out there, so registering bites was a bit tricky, but my first cast caught me 1.5 points, for the Ruffe-ians, a fine Frome minnnow. ![]() I managed a nice fun sized roach, just as JP and I had been discussing what pike would be in the water. With the quality of the silverfish, we think there will be some decent fish to be had. This was my best roach, although JP had some bigger fish on breadflake, he'll add his report to this later, but he also had alovely perch on worm, just a dram or so below 2lb. JP at the bridge, you can see where the bridge has been enlrged with the comming of the moter car/main road. I think I'll have to see if I can get my hands on amsall boat, I sense that some fun could be had on a summer eve, moored mid current and fishing breadflake for what I thin could be some very nice roach. ![]() View downstream at the end of the fishery, what a wonderful long trot? ![]() ![]() __________________ Ignore the margins at your peril

Re: Short session ona new water It is nice, when the wind was not howling through it felt like late March, not the first weekend in Febuary. I think its got too many minnows to be a maggot water, definately a bigger baits venue, worms, meat, paste or corn. __________________ Ignore the margins at your peril

Re: Short session ona new water Never known a river with so many minnows. Used to fish tellisford alot when younger was heaving with them but then there was some lovely chub just had to feed alot of maggots to feed the minnows off. There was also some very good pike there so i imagine there their further upstream as well. Saw a 27pounder pulled out about ten years ago.

Re: Short session ona new water Well all those minnows must mean that there are some nice fat chub amd chunky perch to be tacken. I fished the Frome upstream a few years ago, and had some fine chub, perch to 3lb and nice brown trout, so fingers crossed. __________________ Ignore the margins at your peril
