Groundbaiting.. Hey, At some of my local fisherys some rules are like "NO GROUNDBAIT OR BOILIES" What are the reasons behind this? Why no groundbait? what harm? and why no boilies? Weird cause there are some big carp in there so i would say a boilies is a must ha. Cheers

Re: Groundbaiting.. Bait bans are usually put in forces because the owner is worried about either water quality issues or fish health issues. Some are logical and others farcical. To my mind some of the worst baits are things like luncheon meat or cat food that, when fed to excess, can sit on the bottom and rot. However any bait is reasonable quantities (ie will be eaten soon) seems fair game to an angler operating common sense. And there in lies the problem. A small minority who either don't know or don't care can ruin it for the rest. If rules are applied across the board and evenly then I have no real issue, I can always fish somewhere else (now I have a car , it wasn't the same when I had to bike it everywhere). As it's the fishery owners lake then I guess it means they call the shots. __________________ Just remember, not all the heroes died. www.helpforheroes.org.uk

Re: Groundbaiting.. Also some ground bait if used in huge quanties such as vitalin will just sit and rot on the bed. I know of a few lakes where the lake bed has had to be lined with lime to control the alkalinity of the water. it's all about common sense and people who watch certin DVDs assume that you have to put in 30 ltr of bait/ground bait into every lake/pond in order to catch fish. tj
