| golden sands, haven at mablethorpe firstly, thanks to everyone that answered my queery about the venue & local tackle/bait shops. 1st look at the lakes showed them to be quite small & i was stating to think maybe i'll go to another local fishery in the area. 2nd look to check fishery rules & i was able to have a better look at the lakes, the 1st was an open water, the 2nd had large central island, with some overhanging cover. both had margin features that could be potential holding areas. i'd decided to go this morning as we'd driven up monday, went to ingoldmels market yesterday & we weren't sure what we were doing tomorrow & going home friday. weather wasn't perfect, wind & drizzle, luckilly it wasn't blowing in off the coast (so at least it wasn't a north easterly wind), so wasn't holding out much hope for the day. having had a look at the lakes yesterday, i'd decided to try the lake with the island. sounds lazy, but the swim i chose was closest to where i parked the car, but in my defense, i felt it was the best swim in the conditions ... able to cast to the tree overhanging the water on the island & to the margins both sides quite comfortably, so thought it would give me the best chances. initially got set up with 1 carp rod, although the rules were no groundbait, i decided to set up with my guru micro pellet feeders & 10mm boilie ... pellets not groundbait! also set up my pole to rey that out, with bread on the hook trying the margins. about 15-20 minutes after casting the carp rod out just to the right of the overhanging island tree, i had a good take, after a few minutes a nice mirror of around 8lbs was in my net. with the wind, i decided to put the pole away & try it properly on a calmer day, so set up my second carp rod, again, pellet feeder & 10mm boilie. i had 1 rod cast to around the tree & the other to my right along the margin to a clump of reeds. between the 2 rods, i landed 6 mirror carp, all to about 8lbs, 2 managed to unhook themselves after showing on the surface & 1 hook pull when i tried to turn the fish back towards me. in all, despite the conditions, i had a much better than expected day. just a shame i wasn't in a position to take any pics, but my phone was in my jeans pocket & i had my waterproofs on top, so was too much agro trying to grab it while the fish were on the bank. there were plenty of other anglers on the other lake, but couldn't see how they were doing as my brolly was blocking the view, although 1 guy had been watching me from his caravan & said he was learning from a master, i did ask where, i need tips & advice lol. as i was packing up, so another angler decided to come to the lake i'd been on, but i'd gone before he'd wet his line. __________________ www.mobilespanner1.co.uk |
