| Well guys, Had a change from Saltwater species on Saturday. Bought myself gallons of casters, Cooked hemp and bought some luncheon meat and took some smelly old cheese as bait for good measure. Have not been for some time, but went to one of my favourite spots, water running clear now in the upper reaches, my all time best part of the river. Set up a feeder rod, float rod and fished waggler to far bank after lumping a few feeder fulls of bait over there. Gosh this takes me back..... catty full of hemp then a few more casters.... after 30 mins the waggler dips and momentarily falters in its path downstream...I strike and I caught a small roach, couple of more runs down, then a small chub. Kept feeding because I know there are fish in this swim...cos my coarse fishing pal Andy tells me so and he's always right! Another ten minutes goes by and ....wham the waggler sails away...struck into a nice fish this time...CHUB me thinks.... head down, boring away down stream...I can feel the head shaking so I know its a good fish. Played it to the bank ....net unerneath and a lovely mint conditioned Chub is staring back at me from the net. God its good... the adrenalin rush when you have a good fish in the net and on the bank! The next half hour brings more Chub, then another roach...but the swim is starting to slow down a bit...so a switch to the trusty feeder is in order, I don't like fishing the plastic "Pig" its not sporting enough for me...but needs must. This time a switch to a feeder packed with casters, hemp and maggots with maggot on the hook. First chuck the tip goes round, I strike there is a fish on the end...but what is it... bring it to the surface and its a sodding river snake! (Eel) ah well put the "Pig" out again this time just caster and hemp in the feeder and double caster on the hook. 10 minutes nothing... fill the feeder back up, cast out... the feeder hits the bottom...settles in the flow and a lovely unmissable bite....yes! Another fine Chub is shaking his head at me.....Ah I love this type of fishing...along with Fly Fishing, Sea Fishing, Big Game fishing any kind of fishing really!!!! Well I won't go on any more...but I had a hell of a days coarse fishing, thoroughly enjoyed it, nackered as it was a bit of a hike to get to the swim but the consolation is that my seat box conversion works a treat on the river bank so its multiskilled! Didn't weigh any of the fish but estimate that the largest Chub went near to 3lb, roach to 12 ozs, Eel 10ozs, 1 Dace of a couple of ounces maybe. I might even go Piking next week!! Cherers All |
