| Mission Accomplished It was a return trip to Todber manor Paddock specimen lake this was my second trip my first being last years Cat meet in october although i did have to cancel my visit at the start of the summer. This was also a first for my 5year old son Sam his first night fishing session. Arrived just before 4pm only 3hrs later than expected swim choice was easy closest to the car which was the swim at the dam end. I decided to fish halibut pellet bollie topped off with fake corn cocktail straight out infront towards the reeds the second would be fished in the corner to my right with popped up Rudd. Well things were slow with no signs of fish and thats how it continued darkness came with Sam falling asleep. At about 4.15 decided to change bait, rebaiting the first rod the buzzer sounded and the baitrunner was away on the second rod with a powerfull run, the popped up Rudd had done the trick and all went solid as i lifted into the fish and after a spirited fight my first Cat appeared in the beam of the headlamp and it wasnt long after it was on the mat. I then had to wake my photographer up who was less then impressed at being woken up at 4.30 especially as it was raining. It went just over 18lbs on the scales not a monster but its a start can now move on to a 20lber. This was the only fish caught that night out of 5 anglers so i was happy made even better by my boy loving the whole thing he caught a netfull of Rudd and didnt want togo home. He is now after a Catfish of his own i think one may just pull him in. Need to save for a bigger bivvy now      |
