My last two trips

Hi all

Wednesday 28Th July

I had to travel to Stoke for my mate wedding on the 30Th July so decided to do a mid week night on my local pit, well its 45 mins away. Five Zander hooked, two lost, the three landed were around 6-7lb mark, all on dead Rudd. I missed several runs but that's Zander fishing

Friday 6Th August
I was hoping to fish the slip way swim as the weather forecast was rain, the venue I was fishing is a disused clay pit so when it is wet it is dangerous due to the clay soil and steep banks.

When I arrived the wind was strong and blowing into the Slip way swim, I thought Ideal but the wind was too strong, it would have made bite detection etc...awkward so I decide to fish three swims up which gave me protection from the wind but still had the broken water which should be ideal for the zander

I started to fish around 4.30pm fishing three rods and within an hour I had two dropped runs, both on the inside dead Rudd bait. Around 8.00pm I had a positive run on a Trout section fished 30 yards out, I connected with and landed after a spirited fight a Zander around 6-7lb.

I decided to change the bait on the rod cast out thirty yards from Trout to an Eel section, the bait was fished on a hair rig, size 4 hook and 10lb Fox Cardoflex trace

Around 4am I had a screaming run and after a strong fight I finally landed this Zander

She weighed 13.5lb, A long Zander, I was expecting her to weigh more but she was very lean, if she had had a bit more of a gut I am sure I would have beaten my PB of just under 15lb, I nice fish that put up a good account

I had two more tentative runs that were dropped before I packed up at 7.00

Roll on next week

Darrell

No. The only time I have been plaqued by pike was one night on the Ouse last season, I was using Lamprey Eel sections, from memory I had three pike, smallest was 14lb largest 23lb. Good scraps in the dark. I dont remember ever catching a Pike on Eel section.

I have not had one Pike this season, even on Rudd/Roach baits, I am sure the amount of Zander in the pit at the Moment has pushed the Pike out into the River
