| Staffs Worcester , with Mol' this time. Well there are three girls in my house. My wife and my youngest (the gudgeon queen) are not that kean on coming fishing with me. Molly (my eldest) is quite a fair weather angler. Having said that, last winter I was going out in weather so cold eskimos were bottling it. So I asked her if she wanted to go fishing today and much to my suprise (even though it is warm) she said YES. OK, so what size fish do we want then? Big but maybe none or smaller but some ? It was the second option so we went to the upper limit of the BAA held water on the Staffs Worcester , and in my mind one of the most consistent strechs. By an amazing coincidence a mate of mine in works parents live in the the lockhouse that marks the end of the BAA holdings on this great canal. Parked the car in Swindon (no not that one, the one in the midlands) and up the canal. Pass the first lock and briefly spoke to three blokes who were complaining about the boat traffic. On a canal. Hmm! So it was walk along here Just round the corner to the lovely wooded section with bushs in the swim wonky picture looking back towards the pylons Set moll up with her rod and pink Okuma reel that Uncle Dan picked up for her birthday last year from Garry Evans So it was "feed a little and then cast Mol'" and away we went Oh me by the way (somewhat blurred to save your poor senses) It was a fish a chuck once they got going. Gudgeon, perch up to 12oz, roach up to a pound and chub that the scales said were two but I would have bet on double that. After 2 hours I got 12 pound on the nose . Chuffed . I was getting lightening fast bites and I am convinced these were competing chub between one and two pounds as on the rare occasion I hit them it was a chub . Ended up with four goods uns. Not bad on a pole and 1.7 bottom though the elastic did help. BUT the best thing for me was hearing Mol's reel clutch slipping and her finally landing her first chub I doubt there can be many things in life as special as sharing your passion with the ones you love . __________________ Just remember, not all the heroes died. www.helpforheroes.org.uk |
