| Night Session, Saturday Past. After the discovery of the gill net on Friday there was a morbid mood around, atleast reporting it made me feel slightly better even though the useless barstewards at the loughs agency won't do a tap about it! .So Saturday night we headed back to the same lake, which must be twenty times the size of our usual haunt, so the chance of a really decent pike is always there. Our main idea was to have a go at the Eels again as we heard that there are some smashers in it, and it being a land locked lake it is possible. So 3 rods went up for them, 2 Large balls of worms popped up off the weedy bottom on 2 rods and the other we used a smelt head on a large size 4 hook. The two worm rods lay dormant the hole night and the smelt head produced a nice pike at about 5lbs, who needs barbed trebles when you can use size 4 barbless? But other than that no eels. The main excitement of the night came from the 2 pike rods that were consistently producing runs but most of the time when we struck we just struck into weed . We had landed a few jacks by 11.30pm and then at about 11.45 the line went ripping off one of the reels, and after a fight of about 5/6 minutes we had on the bank a nice 15lber taken on herring. Its our first double at night on only our second all night session, so we are well pleased with the result. It was a very lean fish, to me it looked like a 20 when we landed it but the girth just wasnt there like the rest of the twenties we have had. ![]() I was going to right a report about the gill net on here but rather not just incase the wrong people see! ![]() Cheers, Justin __________________ Blackwater Tackle Supplies Keep Ulster's Waters Healthy, Practice Catch and Release! |
