Bites

Hi

Friday 23rd

Since the weather has cooled a little I decided to give the Zander a go for the first time in a month or so. The venue was Roswell Pits, I arrived around 4ish and settled into a swim fishing three rods, one fished a rod length out with popped up dead Rudd, the second was cast ten yards or so with Rudd dead bait on the bottom and the third, again a dead Rudd bait cast fifty yards

The bite started immediately, well when I say bites I mean the nat bites, what a nightmare. Can anyone recommend a way of keeping the things at bay, I am covered in bites

I had my first real bite just before dark which was dropped on the first rod fished close in, again I missed the next run so decided to strike as soon as the indicator started to rise, it did not take long, ten minutes later and I was into my first Zed which was around the 9lb mark, sorry I did not take any pictures.

The Zander took a good couple of minutes to revive before swimming off strong even thought it was lightly hooked and was only out of the water a short time

I had another couple of dropped runs then I decided to sit by the rod at 4am, After recasting I had a run which I struck at immediately and after a good fight had a 11lb Zander in the net, just as I was going to unhook it the other rod went, striking I had another Zander on, it came to the surface shook its head and out came the hooks

The 11lb er was returned after a few minutes reviving it. 10 mins later I was in again, after a quick fight the fish was in the net, as I was pulling the net in the fish shook its head and jumped, out came the hooks and the Zander was gone...gutted

around 5.30am I missed another dropped run, a couple of minutes later I was in again on the close in rod, this time the hooks stayed in and a Zander around the 7lb mark was landed

I packed up after that, not a bad evening, too many dropped runs and too many Nat bits

Darrell
