| First river trip of 201o river season Hi all Friday 18th June As the weather was cooler I decided to try the River Ouse for my first trip of the new river season. I arrived at the venue around 2pm and made the trip across the field to my chosen swim, well the swim was a bank of foliage 5 feet high and 30ft deep. After I had cut my way through and made a swim I set up camp for the night. The river was very clear with only a small amount of flow, this was going to be a difficult session I set up three rods and out went one with dead Rudd fished tight on the bottom. The other rods I baited up for the Carp on one rod (bollie) and the other for the river cats (Squid, they are very thin on the ground but worth one rod, you never know) As the light faded I changed the Zander rod to a popped dead Rudd, approx 18" off the bottom Around 10ish I had a run on the zander set up which resulted in a lovely Zander, just under 7lb Half an hour later I had a very small Zed and then I settled down for a bit of shut eye. approx 11.30pm I had another Zander, approx 7lb on the popped up Rudd bait and another one of the same size around 4am, well I think it was that time as I was half asleep. all the Zander where in good nick and returned safely to the river. I did not take pictures of the other Zander as I had a Zander keel over on me while fishing on the pits a couple of weeks ago,(gutted) this was due to the low oxygen levels in the pits and I do not want to lose any others I had no interest from the River Carp or Cats, maybe next time I am looking forward to my next vist as soon as the weather conditions are cooler Darrell |

| Re: First river trip of 201o river season Its a shame about the waters, they were stuffed with fish when I was there, I still think that I will return with my family to show then the beautiful landscapes and have a few days fishing the areas I used to when I was much younger. When you have a Zander on your unhooking mat they are stunning, catch them during day light they fight like hell, during the night not so much but well worth the effort |
