Talking river culm 16/6/10 , used up all my daily luck early

well i had a big pass yesterday ,and after manageing to get out of work at 1 pm i was at the killerton stretch of the Culm at 1.30 and rareing to go

the water level was down , but a steady flow, and also still coloured from sunday eve rain, this looked good( apart from being very very hot and bright sunshine)

this last swim i took ages to get going then all the cows came down to drink and ruined it , oh well

i was purely fishing maggot, with 1 rod on maggot feeder and size 6 hook( went down to a 12 later) , other rod a 8 size 4 trotting float and size 14

passed quite a few people ( all said it was tough )on way down stream ( busy for once here , guess first day calling) well apart from a few knocks on the feeder rod , all the fish i did catch came to the float

first too fall were the overly obligeing gudgeon
then at last a new species for the hunt with a dace( first of several in the end)

then after working hard on the above swim, a tiny chub

( heard of a much better one further downsteam, in morning)
i also had a nice roach about 1/2 lb here,
too finish i just played in the margins as could see small fish there and bingo a hard fighting minnow

tally for the 4 hours was 6 gudgeon, 4 dace, 1 roach, 1 chubblet and several minnows
a lovely afternoon

as for the luck bit well I then went to branscombe sea fishing in eve armed with sandeel and crab , and scored a miserable blank ( not even a knock), quite a supriseing swell in the water and weed as well, but saw Si catch a nice 6lb smut so not all bad
