| Upham farm report I arrived at Upham farm fisheries on Saturday morning about 04.45 My little nephew also came along. When we arrived there was only a group of 4 lads that had stayed the night. We set up on the near bank opposite he island as there were a few fish starting to show. On the first rod there was a marine halibut pellet (12mm) tipped with sweet corn cast to the right of the island, second rod was a chopped marine cell, and the third rod was prawn. After the rods were out and the light had picked up i set up a float rod for my nephew whilst i set the bivvy up. Once the camp was all sorted my nephew was crashed on me bed fast asleep. I had a good pull on the halibut pellet struck into it fish on. Only for the hook to pull out. Filled with confidence i sprayed some tiger nut pellet all along the island. Once the rods were recast i set about making some rigs with pva attached so the i could change hook links quicker. I had a couple of line bites but no fish. About 9 ish my nephew awoke so i left him in charge and went to sleep. I was woken about 11am to my nephew shouting "wake up I've got a fish on" so up i jump bleary eyed to get the net only for the hook to pull. I was now beginning to question the rigs/hooks so all new rigs and hooks went on and cast back out. The were a few carp starting to show on the surface so my nephew went after them, they are some of the weariest carp i have ever seen they were nudging the freebies and not always taking them so i knew this would be a challenge. I was still getting line bites but no good takes. I noticed that every angler was hard to the bottom so trying some thing different i attached a 4ft zig with a fluro tuti fruti pop up. Straight away the rod bent round so i handed it to my nephew as only being 9 and not catching i was thinking that he was getting bored. When the fish came to the bank it was a nice double at 10lb 8oz a new pb for him. I think he was also shocked that the bigger carp fight back!! i then switched the other rod to a 4ft zig of the island with a white chocolate pop up. All went quiet with lots of beeps but no connections. It then got till roughly 5pm when the white chocolate rod screamed of again i got my nephew to take the rod again. The bailiff was also walking past so stood watching my nephew get beaten up by the carp. After 5-10 mins the carp took its first gulp of air so i went to slide the net under her, she took one look and dived all the way back to the island she did this a couple of times. My nephew was now starting to get aching arms so i was having to help lift the rod. When she finally came to the net she weighed in a 11 10oz beating his pb again. I then had another take on my rod that was over hemp and corn a nice 10lb was soon netted on a fake corn, so I put some more particle out cast the rod and within 10 mins another run and a 9lb mirror on the bank. By this time it was going nuts. The zig and fake corn were catching everything. By 8pm we had 7 cap between us. What i was shocked tho that all carp had fought so hard that they had shaken the leads free!! I was now down to one lead left which as you can guess didn't last long. the littlest carp of the day at 6lb had even shaken the lead!! But just as quickly as the manic had started it all went quiet. I put some more particle out and cast the rods for the night. I had allot of liners n the night that never materialised so i had no sleep. I then had 2 little carp this morning 4lb being the biggest before we packed up. My nephew has the angling bug even more now which is good. I got a nice tan. The fish did have allot of sores but i presume that this was down to the spawning period as it was scale damage. All in all a very nice trip and i will be doing a full weekend there again soon. I will also try to get the photos of his camera and post them. tj ![]() ![]() |
