Berkley on the fly...

Just got back from a couple of hours at Berkley lake. Fed a few handfull of Chum mixer that I nicked off my dog, to get the carp on the feed. Tackle used was a 9' 6# Orvis flyrod. 8' of 6lb flourocarbon leader & a fly tied from deerhair & clipped to look like a dog biscuit. Ended up with about a dozen of these hard fighting little wildie's..... Had the whole lake to myself. Just one other angler leaving as I arrived.

Greenheart, I have had a fly rod and reel plus line & flies sitting in my shed for years but have never even cast a fly, I bought it because I fancied a go at the Carp on our estate lake after watching John Wilson do it on a video using floating baits using his fly rod.

You have given me a new incentive to try it. looks like very exciting fishing, I just need to learn how to cast a fly line properly.

If it's been sat in your shed for years, the first thing i'd advise is to invest in a new flyline. They develop a memory when tey are old & become very difficult to cast. Then get some casting lessons. You'll learn more in an hour with an instructor than you'll teach yourself in a year. A lot of big trout fisheries do free annual teach-in's for beginners. Chew, Blagdon & Sutton Bingham spring to mind.

Well Done Ian, Great Fun On The Fly Rod. I Brought Myself A Fly Rod After Matt Showed Me How Much Fun It Can Be. Havent Had The Chance To Go Try It For Myself As Of Yet.
