Fishing today well today i thought I would take the opportunity of taking my new pole down to one of my club waters and try it out on the smallish carp there (3-12lb) in preperation of a match in a couple of weeks time. All was going well caught about 20 carp and a 2lb tench on paste over pellet, swim looked like a jacuzzi, so looked like i was in for a really good day. Then i hooked a small carp qabout 5lb and it tore off to my right towards some pads so i lowered the pole applying side strain to try and turn it, when suddenly bang and i was left with 2 parts of my number 6 section in my hands. looking into the lake my 5th, 4th and bottom of the power top 2 were all floating in the lake all in 2 pieces. (gulp this is gonna be expensive) collected all the pieces i could and made the dreaded phone call to the tackle shop to order new sections. gave up fishing for the day and went to the tackle shop to be told its gonna be £350 to replace them .the pole in question is only a month old so the tackle dealer rang the rep to see if anything can be done because i dont break poles as a rule, i always run an elastic 2 sizes lower than a poles stated maximum. After chatting to the rep and explaining how it happened and him realising that he knows me it was left that he would try to sort it on a warranty basis so heres hoping The pole is a Daiwa TDSR4 and has performed faultlessly other than todays happenings Obviously my confidence in the poles abilities are some what dampened, can anyone recommend a 16m pole that will handle double figure carp in slightly snaggy conditions (pads, reeds, weed) cos i think i am going to end up getting another and consigning the daiwa to use at my other club water where it isn't carp city

Re: Fishing today yes Paul you are right, a pole really shouldn't break like that! but hopefully you will be able to get it sorted with the company. Justin __________________ Blackwater Tackle Supplies Keep Ulster's Waters Healthy, Practice Catch and Release!

Re: Fishing today well round 1 in the saga with daiwa has them saying it must be my fault. and as a good will gesture they are prepared to replace FOC the power top no 2 section and the No 4 Section and supply the No 5 and 6 sections at cost (approx £120) Round 2 commences tomorrow when the tackle shop owner is back and can deal with it as i am not the most diplomatic person in the world :)

Re: Fishing today Sad when something like that happens, I had the same thing happen with a fly rod 1st time out. Hooked into a 1lb brownie and all was going well suddenly "snap" the mid section broke just below the top joint. Took it back to my local tackle shop, who said they would deal with it. Day and a half later I got a phone call from tackle shop, to come down and collect new section. So I wouldn`t give up hope, I hope it goes ok for you. Peter.
